Open new tabs last?
It is no secret to anyone that I love PHPStorm :) However there is something that really drives me mad!
Currently I have my tabs on the right. When I start opening a lot of files I'm generally lost! I have like 20-30 open files all the time. Most of the time I work on 2-3. Now the thing is - whenever I open a new tab I have no idea where he is going to be positioned. Normally it is opened right below the current active tab. Is there any way to configure PHPStorm to open the tab last in the list???
Imagine the following situation. You work on file A that is shown at the top and you work on File B that is somewhere in the middle of the opened tabs. When you Open a new file -> it is positioned next to the last active tab. Then you move to another tab, open another file and it is also opened next to this file. You end up with tabs opened at the begining in the middle or at the end and I never have an idea where the heck the last file I was working on is.
If I could set up the IDE so that all files that I open are always last in the list I could easily work on the last 3-4 files and would not have to search 10 seconds for the tab I need.
Any ideas how to achive this?

Hi Daniel,
All settings for tab management are located in Settings | Editor | Editor Tabs and there is no such option to open new files at the end of the list.
Here is existing ticket for such feature: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-56406
In meantime, I can only suggest limiting number of opened tab in that Settings page (Tab limit) so old/not-necessary-now tabs will be closed automatically. Also .. try using Ctrl+E, Ctrl+N, Ctrl+Tab etc shortcuts for navigating between opened/recent tabs and not-yet-opened files
Hi,
is there any progress for that?
Has been implemented a while ago: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-56406#comment=27-805524
I have the same issue. On 2019.3. Open new tab at end is checked, yet when I double click on a file that is not open. It is opening on the first position and rearranging my tabs.
Works well here. Please attach a screenshot of your File | Settings | Editor | General | Editor Tabs settings
@Dimitry
Doesn't seem to be working that well. Over 2 years.

Thanks for linking those reports. Of course if something can't be reproduced on our end this doesn't mean that the problem doesn't exist. I hope those issues would eventually get addressed.
