crosstab search

Hi,

Is it possible to have the search box consistent between tabs/files ?
i.e. when I search for something, I usually don't want to have to re-type my search keywords in order to make the same search in another document.

Also, it would be nice if hitting ctrl+f woud select the content of the search box instead of placing the cursor after it.In most cases this unexpected behaviour is more annoying than helpful.

Hi there,

Nope -- at least I have not found any settings to have such behaviour.

i.e. when I search for something, I usually don't want to have to re-type my search keywords in order to make the same search in another document.

When this ticket will be resolved, you will be able to use Find In Path (Edit | Find | Find in Path) to search across all opened tabs: WI-9721. Yes, this is not exactly what you are asking here (as it has different overall behaviour), but maybe it will be OK. Right now you can select multiple files in Project View and then use Find In Path (select custom scope: Selected Files) -- but this one even further away from requested...

Also, it would be nice if hitting ctrl+f woud select the content of the search box instead of placing the cursor after it.In most cases this unexpected behaviour is more annoying than helpful.

Don't know -- works fine for me. What product version do you use (Help | About) ? I'm on v4 EAP build.

Thanks for your response Andriy.

Even though your suggestion could be helpful compared to a whole directory/project search, that is indeed not the behaviour I am going for.
What I would like to have is similar, except that I want to be able to search one file after the other.

That would be solved if the searchbox was common to all opened document, which is usually the case in other editors.
On contrary, I don't see any usecase for a different search box for each document.

About the other point, I think it happens when the focus is still in the search box, even though I changed back and forth to another document.
I believe hitting ctrl+f should always bring us back to the search box and select the search box content if any.
It would be way better than current behaviour in terms of ergonomy imho.

About the version, I am now running 3.0.3 but I have been having issues with that for a long time and many different versions.

Hi,

There are. And it's quite common to search for something in one file and for something else in another (at very least I do it quite often). For example: search for different things in different types of files (php & html/smarty) and jump between them without re-typing query every time.

On another hand -- I would like to be able to switch between per-file and global (sticky -- the same search box for any tab) mode quickly from time to time.

In any case -- feel free to create new tickets (one feature/bug per ticket) to Issue Tracker: http://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/WI
