Horray! JB gets Xdebug mouse-hovers 'right'! :-)...
JetBrainiacs,
Horray! Finally, a PHP IDE developer has gotten Xdebug mouse-hover tooltips to be as info-rich and helpful as they can (and should) be. I was wondering if it was just me (that being my particular dev box config as much as any user settable config options) or if Xdebug was just not capable of doing this important feature the way I want/need it to be.
I spent nearly 25 years as a 'hardcore' Smalltalk designer/developer. So I have a very 'exploratory' approach to incremental development. I certainly still miss the incredible flexibility of Smalltalk's 'forward/backward, change, keep going' fluid development style. But if I can just get a really helpful view onto my executing code, I am much more productive and relaxed. So the 'deep-revealing' mouse-hover tooltips provided during debugging are a super big deal to me. This feature alone has kept me using nuSphere's PhpED IDE for years even though there are aspects of their otherwise excellent product that are a bit lacking (as in code 'live templates' and non-OO PHP code completion to cite a couple items).
So, finally, I am seeing in the latest EAP release the Xdebug behavior I've always been looking for. In short, as I move 'right-ward' on a mouse-hover of an object or nested array during debugging, I want/need to see 'progressively reduced' tooltip display of the inspected item. For some reason, the mainstream PHP IDEs that use Xdebug just stop at the top level tooltip and leave you to go 'dive deeper' in the Locals/Global variable debug pane.
Horray! You folks have got it right. Not only are the 'dive deeper' tooltips there, but these pop-up dynamic panes are themselves 'active' with collapse/expand subitems, etc. Thank you... Now, the only thing that is bugging me about this GREAT feature is that the delay to display debug tooltips is too long for my taste.
QUESTION: Is there a Settings user option for controlling the debug tooltip mouse-hover pop-up? Is see something along these lines related to the Javascript debugger. But I don't see something comparable for the PHP Xdebug side of things.
Thanks so much for helping me to find/set this delay. I will be one NEW AND HAPPY (actually HAPPIER as I'm already happy) PS 'CAMPER'.

Hello DropaBalm.comJambo,
Right, there is no such setting yet. Please report a feature request in our issue tracker - http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issues/WI
Thank you for feedback!
Hi Nikolay,
Thanks for the reply. I have entered feature request at WI-4787. I do GREATLY appreciate that you folks are doing a SUPER great job on PS 2.0.
If this were not such a super tough economy and I had the money, I would certainly not hesitate to pay your full (and reasonable) price for a PS license. As it is, I am VERY happy that I learned about this great product and purchased a license during the major holiday sale! :)
Thanks again for making such great products,
