Creating new maven project type

Hi,

We're currently developing a plugin that should allow to create a new project based on maven project type with some additional directories and files. As we suppose the proper way to do this is to add dependency from maven integration plugin and extend it classes by custom logic. But we can't find any information or examples. Is it possible to implement such scenario? Or may be there are another approaches to create a custom project type?
