Updating/upgrading procedure needs to be changed!

Hello Nesta,

Future versions of PyCharm will use the same upgrade procedure as PhpStorm.

I know that the current update process allows us to have multiple

versions of the IDE, but imo this is bad design.

It is not convenient at all having to go to the website  > downloading

installing > (optionally) removing previous version. It's way too

much of a hassle, especially since your update cycle is quite short

(which is a good thing btw).

Multiple versions should be an option, not a standard.

I really don't understand why you don't have a built-in updater that

updates or upgrades the installation and removes unnecessary files. In

WebStorm the smaller "patches" do get installed this way, but the

bigger upgrades still have to be installed "manually".

You should incorporate an "Update settings" in the preferences where

one could choose between manual updating and built-in updating (with

removal of old version), imo the default settings would be internal

updating.

Thank you for you answer Dmitry, however it's not fully clear to me as I only use (personal licensed) WebStorm & PyCharm.

Does this mean major upgrades will be handled internally as well? Or only smaller patches?

Just like in other products, major upgrades will still require a full separate

installation.
