Alt + W keyboard shortcut, Save to Kill Ring, not working in Emacs mode on OS X

I want to use the key binding ⌥    (Alt) + W to save to the kill ring in Emacs mode. The default setting for ⌥ + W is 'Save to Kill Ring' in the for editor actions in Emacs mode. I try to use the shortcut in the editor and it keeps on inserting the symbol ∑. A slight annoyance is when I try to filter the keymap by ⌥ as the first stroke it shows some HUD display over the editor.

I'm using OS X 10.9.1. I would like to be able to use the kill ring just like in Emacs.

Any help?

Bump...

This is a show stopper for Emacs users on Mac. I'm just going to file a bug.

Ditto.  This is very strange.  Additionally, I can't bind anything to alt-W, nor is the attempt flagged as "already existing" even though alt-W is listed in the PyCharm keymap as being bound to Save to Kill Ring.  The problem does not occur with other letters.  I can, for example, bind Save to Kill Ring to alt-R.    What's the problem with alt-W ??

Actually, there are a large number of letters that can't be bound with Alt-, not just W.  Is this intentional?
