Strangeness when editing HTML Follow

I have a very simple HTML file I have been editing off an on for a few days. All of sudden I can't add new lines. I can type anywhere in the file but only get new lines to appear at the start or end of the file. Most keyboard commands don't work either like command-N or command-F12.

Have I put the editor into some strange mode? I don't have this problem is *.js or *.css files in the project. The project is a very simple Google App Engine project.

I am running PyCharm 3.4.1 on MacOS 10.9.4.
