pycharm takes too long to create list of files

Every time I click on the open folder, it takes a long time to list out all the files. Can I change some setting to make this faster?

I originally assumed this was confined to one file browser dialog on my Windows 7 system, but finding this post, I tried it elsewhere, and all of them are slow.
