As we only merge branches for IDEA 14.1 EAP and Releases I can suggest to use EAP update channel: https://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/SCA/Scala+plugin+EAP We will move to IDEA 14.1 branch as soon as IDEA 14.1 will be released. Note, that updates for IDEA 14 and IDEA 14.1 are synchronous (both EAPs and Releases).

Ah, thanks Alexander, that is what I was missing.
It might be helpfull if there was some reference on: https://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/SCA/Scala+Plugin+for+IntelliJ+IDEA , which only refers to the Cassiopeia nightlies, I think.
Though I do now appreciate that Idea prompts me for whether I want to choose EAP stream of Scala plugins
