What's the point of the -build projects that get created for project directories in SBT projects?

As the topic says, our SBT project's module listing contains an additional MODULENAME-build module/project for each project directory in a module/project. Which makes the module listing twice as long as it shoud be. What's the point of this feature?

First I thought we might have misconfigured our project. But this official Intellij/SBT video shows the same phenomenon.

This module contains dependencies for proper highlighting of build.sbt and appropriate scala build files.
Generally it's not necessary to create physical module as we can store all required inforamtion separately in workspace.xml. And we have plans to implement it in such way. However it's much harder to implement with possible requirements of IDEA platform changes, so current behavior is just some simpler way to implement this feature (I mean highlighting).

Thanks for the information. It would be nice to have a bit more documentation about this somewhere. I was sure we had some misconfiguration going on somewhere. Hope you will be able to fix it eventually.
