How to configure IntelliJ IDEA to load license server address from a properties file?

Answered

My goal is to avoid manual configuration of the license server:

Help > Register > IntelliJ IDEA License Activation Dialog is opened > License server

If you register one instance via a server, its address will be stored in the .key file (https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/articles/206544609). You can then copy this file to the IDE config folders on other machines (per user).

@Serge, thank you for your answer.

But, I need to configure this within a company, so more than one instance via server.

Please let me know if there is a different solution in my case.

You can also set up automatic server discovery, but in this case user will have to select the server activation option manually and click discover button to the the server address: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/license_server/configure_automatic_server_discovery.html.

So only the DNS server should be configured and all the users don't need to change anything locally, right?

Yes, users will need to choose a server option when registering, then click Discover button that will fill in the server URL automatically, then click OK and accept the license agreement.

So that means all users will need to manually configure:

Help > Register > IntelliJ IDEA License Activation Dialog is opened > License server

But the goal of my question is how to avoid this.

In this case the .key file is the only option.
