Upgrade path RubyMine on Windows confuses me

Upon learning of 5.0.1 - the path to getting it installed is quite confusing to me.
First of all, when I'm alerted in the program that a new version is available and I select "Install and restart" - it never works. It never has worked. I don't know what's going on there. Simply nothing happens.
Then I go to the website and download it manually and it wants to detect previous installations.... I guess, sure I should remove them, right?
Wrong.
It uninstalls, but then when I go to install 5.0.1 it complains that I can't install it into the recommended directory "please choose another directory without 5.0.x bla bla"...
At this point I don't really care, just "UPGRADE" please?
So I choose a different directory and finally I've upgraded.
Probably with a directory that can't be used again for reasons I don't know.
This is not a quick or pleasant experience.
What would you think I was supposed to do and is there any reason why "install and restart" , silently, never works?

*Edit Hang on, I just realized there was a hidden window, waiting for me at the end of the "uninstall". I assumed because all Windows disappeared that I had to run the install again, but looks like the original install was just hiding and this caused all manner of confusion.

After reading your post I see that one problem is that RM was unable to update itself.
Am I right that this is the only RM problem you found?
(I hope you agree that inability ro install "during" uninstallation is not an RM problem ;))
Also what OS are you using?  I presume Windows, but do not know which version, and also I used to double-check my guesses :).

I have just tried to update RM 5.0 to 5.0.1 on Windows 7 and everything works fine for me :(

Yes, with the addendum *Edit to my thread, I might as well have deleted it. It was all my fault for not realizing the install was still going and running another one.
