Duplicate project problems

I used $ cp -r demo demoMercury to create a new project from a known working baseline. I was able to correct errors and finally get the server to run and the demoMercury app to render pages same as were done from the demo app. All the errors were of the nature "Demo::Application::.... which I changed to DemoMercury".

Some questions remain:

  1. In RubyMine I'm still left wth a project name of "demoMercury[demo]" ????? How do I correct this.
  2. The .git directory I assume is all files from the demo directory. ??? How do I completely clean this up completely? Is just deleting the .git directory enough? And then init, add and commit?
  3. Is there something else I should do?
  4. What is the correct way to do this

Hello Robin,

RubyMine stores project settings as name, etc in .idea folder. The correct way to fix your problem is to create new project in the copied folder.

Hi Robin,

  • In RubyMine I'm still left wth a project name of "demoMercury[demo]" ????? How do I correct this

Please close RubyMine, backup ".idea" folder in project root, then delete the folder. Launch RubyMine and initialize your project as new one using "File|Open Directory". RubyMine will recreate ".idea" folder, then you need to correct project settings, probably add some run configurations, etc.

  • The .git directory I assume is all files from the demo directory. ??? How do I completely clean this up completely? Is just deleting the .git directory enough? And then init, add and commit?

It is not RubyMine related question and better to ask in in some ruby or git discussion fourms. ASFAIK you are right, you can just delete ".git" folder and initialize new git repo there

  • Is there something else I should do?

I think no.

Thanks guys for the response.
The ".idea" rename was what I didn't know about.

RM was very useful in locating all of the occurances of "Demo" so I could change them to "DemoMerucury". I imagine now that it's done I probably coulld have removed the old ".idea" file,
opened the new directory as a project and done a Refactor/Rename and had them all done even more easily.

I like the procject (RM) a lot.

Is there a way to go directly from a method usage to the method definition except through search for all usage?
Having a way to get back to the method usage after seeing what the method definition does would be great also. Do these exist? I have been unable to find either.
I'm having a problem repeat where starting the development server will get an error about trying to run a second server. I have learned that I can stop the current server and then
start it up again (after model changes) But sometimes I have stopped the server but still get the errror. I need to take down RM and re-start it.

Robin.
