With the announcement of RubyMine will the IDEA plugin still be available?
I've been waiting for a month for the Ruby plugin to be available for IDEA EAP and now there's a Ruby IDE. Could someone from JetBrains reply regarding the following questions?
1. Will the Ruby plug-in still be available for IDEA?
2. What is the expected pricing for the new Ruby IDE?
I'm primarily a Java developer but use IDEA for JRuby and MRI projects as well. Will I have to buy both IDE's to work in Java and Ruby?

Hello Shane,
Yes, the Ruby plugin for IntelliJ IDEA is built from the same codebase as RubyMine, and we plan to release new RubyMine builds and plugin updates synchronously. The plugin will remain free for those who have purchased a full IntelliJ IDEA license. The pricing for RubyMine will be announced very soon, and you can expect it to be much lower than the price of IDEA.
RubyMine supports JRuby as the runtime for running applications, but the the full range of JRuby support features (cross-language navigation, completion and refactoring) will only be available in the IntelliJ IDEA plugin.

Maybe it's to early to ask that, but here I go:
Even owning a full IntelliJ IDEA licence, I'd love to run RubyMine as a separate product -- to keep the installation cleaner, with a lot less plugins to load and such. I wonder if IDEA users will be able run RubyMine with the same licence (so I could run IDEA or RubyMine, but not both at the same time).
Hello Marcus,
We haven't actually discussed that possibility yet.

Personally, I think that would be swell. But if not, I'd love to see a heavy discount for IDEA license-holders. If they're feature equivalent for Ruby, then I'm probably willing to pay something extra for a clean, minimal Ruby environment, but not a ton.
And of course, you'll want a discount to run the other way, too: I plan to get a bunch of Ruby-heads hooked on RubyMine, and I'm sure some of them will want to upgrade!
Hm, Dmitry mentioned on Ruby Inside that RubyMine pricing will be closer to TextMate than to IDEA. If it's going to be that cheap, maybe we don't even need a discount.
So it's not entirely clear to me still:
Thanks
As far as the price for RubyMine goes, it's cheap enough with the discount. I don't mind having paid for both Intellij and RubyMine separately. It's worth it to me, especially considering how much faster the standalone RubyMine loads.
Hello Arnon,
No it is not correct. Ruby plugin for IntelliJ IDEA will include all the RubyMine functionality and provide Java - JRuby interaction.
We've released new version of Ruby plugin yesterday.
Regards,
Oleg
