TabReorder Inoperative in IDEA 8.0

Hello Randall,

Since the tabs in IDEA 8.0 no longer use a standard Swing tab control, there's
nearly no chance of tab reordering being implemented as a plugin. The good
news is that we plan to support this as a core feature (in version 8.1 most
likely).

TabReorder seems to be entirely inoperative for me in IDEA 8.0. I can
neither drag tabs (my primary use of TabReorder) nor use the tab
context menu actions nor use the keyboard mappings for its actions.

Is TabReorder being maintained?

Hi,

Having just now overflowed the tab bar (I'm unwilling to let it take more than one row), I see that the old tab scrolling buttons have been replaced with a kind of pop-up menu.

Is there a way to get the old scrolling back?


So far, it seems that the functionality associated with the tab bar is significantly degraded by comparison to version 7. Why were these changes made? What was gained from the user's perspective?

Yeah, it sort of crossed my mind to check whether you were the author or just passing on the news, but I just went for it.

I was just so exuberant about this. I really, really like to have tab control...
