[ANN] FileBrowser 1.4.0

Fixed Bugs / new features:

  • Fixed Bug: FileChooser invoked from FileBrowser's Copy or Move action didn't work properly.

  • Fixed Bug: Copy and Move didn't check whether the destination folder existed or whether there was already a file with the same name as the copied or moved file.

  • Removed autocompletion in desitination folder comboBox. This is now a standard feature of IDEA's FileChooser. No need to duplicate it here.

  • Destination folder comboBox now also contains project and application favorites

  • Added "Go To" action which can be used to jump directly to another folder without having to navigate step by step to it.

  • Added "Go Up" action. This one opens a menu with all ancestors of the current folder.

  • Move-Action was a bit dangerous. It first moved the file and then renamed it to its new name. So it would first overwrite a file in the destination folder that had the original name of the moved file and then rename it.

Known issues:

  • Shortcuts still don't appear in menus and on tooltips of FileBrowser's actions.

Robert

Hello Robert,

1)
The first (parent dir) entry always gets in my way.
For example, when filtering content by typing a few characters, it's always
the first (selected) entry.
Why not get rid of it, and map "Go Up" to Backspace?

2)
Speaking about filtering, it would be nice if the regular IDEA "SpeedSearch"
popup was shown, indicating which prefix is active as filter.

3)
What's the behavior of Ctrl-Alt-Left and Ctrl-Alt-Right?
It would be nice if they mimicked IDEAs "history" behavior.

Nice plugin btw.

I will add an option to hide the parent dir entry.
You can already go to the parent directory by pressing Cursor Left.

I always thought that that Speedsearch popup was often in the way and somehow misplaced. So I gave the filter its own space below the list. Didn't you notice it or do you think that it's worse than the popup. BTW: The filter isn't the active prefix. Any item that contains the filter string matches the filter not only items that start with the filter.

Ctrl-Alt-Right?

behavior.

There's no special handling for CTRL-Alt-Left and CTRL-Alt-Right as of now. They behave just like Left and Right now (currently no modifier checking). Left goes one level up (to the parent) and Right goes one level down (into the selected child).
I like the history idea though and will implement it for one of the next updates.

Nice plugin btw.

Thanks.

Robert

A couple things

  • It seems that if you use the arrows to move around the browser, the editor immediately opens the file you move to and the editor gets the focus. (which is not a very keyboard friendly behavior.)

  • Another toolbar button that you could use is "sync to open editor" that switches the tree to show the directory for the current editor file.

This tool is already a quantum leap over the commander

thank you thank you thank you.

Strange, I succeeded to reproduce this once. If you have any scenario where it always happens, it would be nice if you could describe it here.
It is an intended behavior that the editor opens if you press Cursor Right on a file since it is no folder FileBrowser can dive into. Going into a file is opening it. But the focus should stay in FileBrowser if you don't have "Focus Editor" activated.

  • Another toolbar button that you could use is "sync

to open editor" that switches the tree to show the
directory for the current editor file.

I'll add that and also the possibility to customize the contents of the toolbar. It's getting a bit crowded and most likely few people use all the functionality that is currently proposed there.
