Suggestion for Key Promoter

Hi.

Here's a suggestion to Key Promoter - allow showing the 'promotion' next
to the mouse pointer rather than at the bottom.

Hi,
Thanks for you suggestion.

It is problem with dialogs and menus. May be I'll consider add it as new popup instead of using LayeredPane of active frame.

The problem now that I need more ideas to extend plugin cause all my attempts to hook to breakpoints and so on gutter stuff was lost in IDEA internals :( Some other also...

So please post any ideas here, may be it is behaviour pattern of non hardcore IDEA user which you observing day by day or during IDEA learning by newbie.
Also ifyou noticed that you not using cool Idea features for some reason it will be helpful to hear it also.

Thanks,
Dmitry

Here's another idea for you:
If a user uses some feature a lot (beyond a configurable number of times
in a session or over a period of time) and it doesn't have a keyboard
shortcut, suggest adding a keyboard shortcut and allow adding it.

Here's a use case that demonstrates it:
1. User uses local history labels after each change for a personal project.
2. Over 2 times an hour user Clicks on Version Control --> Local History
--> Add Label.
3. After the 3rd time within the same hour time window, user is offered
to add a keyboard shortcut through an unobtrusive popup, possibly
similar to error popups that IntelliJ shows with a different color.
Default needs to not collide with existing shortcuts.
4. If user chooses to ignore, no usage flow is harmed. User can choose
to use the default, add a custom shortcut or ask to never show the popup
for this action again.

It may even be useful to have a configurable setting to automatically
add shortcuts.

The opposite may also be useful - removing shortcuts (when a shortcut is
needed for a frequently used action) from rarely used features. For
example, I rarely use the commander but use the Ant panel all the time.
I wouldn't mind having the Ant Build panel assume the Alt-2 shortcut.

The result, optimistically, would be IntelliJ adapting to a specific
usage pattern, continuously tuning it's keyboard shortcuts and directing
the user to use them.

Hi Amnon,
Adding new shortcut proposing really good idea, I miss it to (just realized :))

Changing exisiting is risky I think but anyway I'll think about this a bit.

Thanks,
Dmitry
