alphabetic order sucks!

DmitryKashin, why did you reorder the plugins list on the community site?

I used to check that list often to see if new plugins were available... not so easy now, is it?

Does this bother anyone else? I have recreated the list from the change log... including the new additions.. but I'm not going to change the front page if others think the alphabetization was a good move...

It's nice having an alphabetized list but we do also need a list of
recently added plugins. Perhaps we could keep a "10 Most Recently Added
Plugins" list above the full list.

What drives me crazy is that there are TWO lists--one on the Wiki's home
page and one at:

http://www.intellij.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginContribs

(though i think the PluginContribs one is a slightly smaller subset)

Perhaps compromise and order one of them alphabetically and the other by
creation date?

FYI: I'll be posting a new build of the Plugin Manager soon which'll help
sort out new and updated plugins.

sounds like a maintainence headache... maybe if it's automated somehow...

Yeah... maybe the wiki isn't the best place to keep the golden list... anyway you look at it, plugin authors have to do multiple adds/updates/deletes to maintain the wiki... and that's best case... sometimes people come in and just decide to wack the defacto standard... and then we have to have big discussions like this :)

hopefully IntelliJ takes a shot at the repository soon...

Well how about creating a table for the plugins and allowing sorting on the
table. that way the viewer can sort on any order he wants to do.

Sorry for inconvinience, but ...
I use existing before order same way as you are. But when I notice that one new plugin appears at the begin of the list and old order become not actual in sense of plugin creation order.
When you search not new but existing earlier plugin you have to remember that for example "simpleUML plugin is 17 from the top", and this true until someone else not add new plugin before it.
Alphabetical order using everywhere by default.
And for marking new plugins convinient use NEW specificator.
Also when new build of plugin is available would be good to have this info on the main page.
Before making alphabetical sort, I think about some other way of order or group plugins and the alphabetical sort is most painless of them for now. But in future with growing number of plugins we have to group them by categories else many good plugins may lost.

Sorry for inconvinience and bad english.

I noticed that one at the top as well... but it was only one, and it had been there for quite a while...

anyway... it seems no one is as upset about it as me... so I'll just make due :)

In the future it might be a good idea to ask in this forum before you reformat something as major as the plugin list...

In article <6818951.1037740870918.JavaMail.jrun@is.intellij.net>,
intellij@chowda.net says...

What if the date last updated was included in the display. If that was
onscreen, it would help. Or, if you could, in addition, SORT by that
date, the maintenance issues would go away.
