is this functionality possible?

hi all,

i am interested in creating an external application that could control the current file i'm working on in the idea application editor. to do this, i will need to make a call into the idea app to tell it do change to a particular file. Is this just wishful thinking on my part?

would appreciate any leads/help. thanks!
