Opened a windows .idea project on mac and now my menubar is part of the editor window...

Answered

I use Intellij 14 on OSX. Until very recently, my UI appeared normal, but now my menubar (file, edit, view, etc) is part of the main editor UI window, like on Windows and Linux, and not up in the OSX menubar, as normal. The only thing I can attribute this to, is that I accidentally hit some combination of keys and made this change, or it's a result of opening a project for review that already had a .idea folder (received from a user on Windows, potentially with a different version of Intellij, too). I didn't realise there was an existing .idea directory.

I've had a quick look and there are a bunch of files, including a workspace.xml file, but I can't see anything specific which would cause this change.

It's worth noting that the window behaviour has changed, too. If I close the window, it shuts down Intellij, rather than dropping back to the project selection dialogue. This change has affected any project that I open.

Does anybody have any ideas what's happening here?

Thanks! :)

These are IDE settings stored in config folder (https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/articles/206544519). I don't see how opening a project from Windows would cause this problem.

Does it help if you move/rename existing IDE settings/caches/plugins folders and start with all the defaults?

Thanks for the suggestion, Serge. Sadly, getting rid of those directories doesn't change anything. Re-opening IntelliJ and going through the initial setup process (I selected skip and select all defaults) still results in seeing the menubar inside the application window. I know I could try upgrading to the new version, but I wanted to avoid doing that until I had completed a piece of work, and this isn't a showstopping issue, just a minor annoyance.

Do you have any other ideas?

Try reinstalling your version from http://confluence.jetbrains.com/display/IntelliJIDEA/Previous+IntelliJ+IDEA+Releases .

Could be that Info.plist is corrupted/modified so that Mac menu is disabled.

Re-installing the same version seemed to do the trick. Thanks for your help!
