Intellij hangs on Ubuntu 11.10

Hi,

I just noticed that my IDE was completely frozen. No clue why it went into that state as I just left it open for a few hours (I opened it this morning, but didn't do anything with it).

There are a bunch of thread dumps in the log directory, which started generating from around midday and they seem to be containing some repeating stuff. I'll attach the first one.

Kind Regards.

Hi Jan,

I doubt we can do anything here as the dump shows that AWT is locked at the native call. Btw, what java do you use?

I'm using the openjdk7 as default java to run, but JAVA_HOME is set to the oracle java 7 sdk.

I already checked some system logs, but couldn't find anything out of the ordinary that could have triggered this. Anyways, if it happens again, I'll let you know.

Woops, made a mistake, it's actually openjdk 6 which is used to run java:

java version "1.6.0_23"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11pre) (6b23~pre11-0ubuntu1.11.10)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode)

JAVA_HOME is pointing to this one:

java version "1.7.0"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0-b147)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 21.0-b17, mixed mode)

Sorry for the previous mail.

I restarted the IDE and it seems to run fine for now. I might try out the Oracle JDK 6/7 to run later on if I run into the same problem again.

By the way, I'm running the EAP on Windows 64 bit / Oracle JDK 7 as well, and that one hasn't got any problems so far. (testing both at work for JEE development)

Kind Regards.

Using OpenJDK is just asking for trouble. In my Fedora, it worked but the fonts were not antialiased. Other Java apps like Jedit were unstable or unusable.

Ok, thanks for the info, I'll keep running with the Oracle java 7. If it occurs again, I'll post a message here.

Kind Regards.

Jan, it seems Java hung in response to a GTK theme change event. Have you changed a system theme before that happened? While usually it passes ok I do remember to seeing such a hang once.

I don't think I did any theme changes at that time. I did install some things with synaptic around that time and if I remember correctly, it might have been at the time I manually locked the screen to go to dinner. Maybe the latter triggered the problem?

Kind Regards.

May be.
Anyway, if you'll run into the issue again please consider filing a bug to Oracle.
