Check for Updates behaviour
I see there's a new EAP build out - great! Except...
When I run "Check for Updates" from my home PC (running 10666), the update
to 10762 is detected, but IDEA doesn't offer to apply the update as a patch.
It just says "Press More Info... to open a webpage where you can download
IDEA manually or learn more about its new version". Why does the automatic
updating not work?
In addition, when I try "Check for Updates" from my work PC (also running
10666), a dialog appears saying "Nothing found to update". Why doesn't it
tell me there's a new version? The only thing I can think of is our proxy
is getting in the way, but if that's the case I'd expect a more helpful error
message. Note that the proxy is set up correctly in my IDEA settings. Plugin
downloads/updates etc are working fine.
Both the above problems are slightly frustrating as I now have to download
the full zip file and apply it manually in two locations. This isn't the
first time I've seen this problem. Any ideas?

Hello Chris,
The patch is not available for 10762 because there've been some packaging
changes that the patch system isn't always capable of handling, and we've
decided to release only a full build to make sure that users won't get broken
installations. Subsequent EAP builds will be available as patches again.

Hi Dmitry,
OK that makes sense, thanks for the explanation. I think it would be helpful
if the update dialog explained what was happening a bit better - up until
now it has always seemed a bit like voodoo as to whether an upgrade will
apply or not and I've always wondered if it might be me doing something wrong,
or something wrong with my config.
Regards,
Chris
