I vote for minimal new stuff and getting 8.x polished.

  • across the board performamce improvements for large projects
    • i already feel 8.1 is faster on my large maven multimodule project, but i can still only open part of my maven module heirarchy into the project  if i want the ide useable.
  • stability.
  • more background actions and less modal dialogs
    • maven import, cvs checkouts, project loading etc.
    • example of backround action needed - if you open maven preferences when while maven is running, the running maven program will stop.
  • less "freezeups".   for example, after maven sync, etc.
  • maven import faster and smarter (only import the pom or dependency that changed)

That being said, the couple days with 8.1 looks promising.  good stuff!

Hello Nick,

What is the focus for 8.1 and what are the planned new features etc.?

Most of the stuff planned for 8.1 final is already in the first EAP. There
may be a couple more new plugins but we're not announcing that because we're
not certain that they would make it. No major core features are planned.

8.1 will be a free upgrade from 8.0.
