Idea 8 and Ubuntu 8.10 Follow
I'm running Idea 8 final on Ubuntu 8.10 with java 1.6.0_10 and it is complete unusable.
Since I upgraded Ubuntu I was not able to use lastest EAP versions neither final version, scrolling takes too long, i.e. navigate to method (ctrl f12) on a big class and you see editor scrolling in "slow motion"
Idea 7 is also less performant but not as much as Idea 8
Anyone has the same problem?

I can't help you because I'm still on Ubuntu 8.04, but I would like to say thanks for the heads up! ... I'll stick with Ubuntu 8.04 for now.
This is a known performance regression in Ubuntu 8.10 which also affects
other Java applications like NetBeans. Unfortunately there's no known workaround.

Thanks Dmitry for your answer
I also experience the same problems on Ubuntu 8.10 and using IDEA 8

Do you have a link to the ubuntu bugreport handy ?
But why doesn't it affect Idea 7 not as much as 8.0?
I just tried running Idea 8 with jdk 1.7-ea but the problem persists :(
Did anyone try running Idea 8 with cacao-jdk or open-jdk from ubuntu repositories ?
I found this bug report for Ubuntu 8.10 (and Xorg-server 1.5.x in general): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/source/xorg-server/bug/280671
I think for some people using EXA helped a lot but as long as they don't fix the server I think there's no good cure for that problem...
jetbrains are pointing to:
Don't waste your time, I just tried them both and they don't solve the problem
