8.0 RC1 (8995) no longer prefers Java 6 on the mac?

I just fired up build 8995, and it seems that it has been configured to prefer Java 5 on the Mac instead of Java 6?

If so, curious as to why this change was made. (I liked the nicer font rendering that Java 6 brought..)

on the flipside, memory usage is down (as expected, with pointers being half the size :) .. and the app feels much faster. so its probably a net win

Yeah, agree.
Intellij team, please consider to switch the IDEA 8 to Java6 JRE by default.
And a little bit more sophisticated Xms and Xmx settings. The 32m and 128m settings is outdated, isn't it?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Fazekas,

Yeah, agree.

Why? IDEA under Java 6 uses much less memory and the reports say that it's
more stable overall.

And a little bit more sophisticated Xms and Xmx settings. The 32m and
128m settings is outdated, isn't it?

The default settings are 32/256 now.

I don't really understand your answer, if you don't mind.
What i tried to say is that on Leopard the default java is 6 now and i hoped that idea follow this lead. But if i interpret your answer correctly, you have done it already. Or am i misunderstanding something?

Regards,

Imre

No, we have not done the same because we do not see any real advantages from
doing so, and see a very real disadvantage (much increased memory usage).

Sorry, I mixed things up. Java 6 on MacOS X is 64-bit so IDEA under Java
6 uses much more memory.

OK, that is clear now. Only a negation was missing. :) Thanks...

Actually, unless you make changes in the Java Preferences, Java 5 remains the default on Leopard at this time.
