IntelliJ won't show multiple projects in project pane

Hi all,

I'm a brand new IntelliJ user, and I'm enjoying the application but I've run into a problem. I've tried searching to forum for an answer, but have had no success.

IntelliJ was showing all my projects in the project pane, which is normal behavior. I was fussing with my files trying to get stuff to sync with GitHub, and I don't know what I did, but now IntelliJ will only show one project at a time in the project pane. If I open another project, it closes the project I currently have open and only shows the new project in the pane. This applies creating new projects as well -- if I create a new project it closes my current project. This started when I imported a project into IntelliJ, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

(Just to clarify, it isn't just opening a project in a new window -- it actually closes the project completely.)

I hope someone knows the answer to this one, it's driving me nuts.

Thanks much!

Alex Harris

What IDE did you use before?
There is some difference in terminology in different IDEs. For example IntelliJ IDEA project is the equivalent of Eclipse workspace and IntelliJ IDEA module is the equivalent of Eclipse project.

So in IntelliJ IDEA yo always have one project per window, project may contain multiple modules. You may have several projects open at a time (in different windows): check Settings | General | Project Opening. Select 'Confirm window to open project in'.

Ah ha, that must be it. The only other IDE I've used is Eclipse, and I didn't really think about what practical effect the difference in nomenclature would have. I only had two modules in IntelliJ, and I removed one and then reimported it as a project rather than as a module. That left me with two projects, reach with one module.

Thanks so much!
