7291 going out to lunch on "Updating Modified Files..."

A couple of times today, IDEA has gotten into a state where it sits
there forever with a modal dialog that says "Updating Modified Files..."
and a little blue bar that continuously moves from right to left and back.

This did not happen for me in the previous build.

It seems to be trying to synchronize with file changes that were made
external to idea-- however, it stays in this state forever (I have to
forcibly kill the IDEA process to get out of it.)

There are no exceptions, stack dumps or log entries that seem to be
obviously related to this problem, and I can't seem to reproduce it at
will either.

Yes, I'm currently looking at #7291 'out to lunch' after having opened a second project frame, done some debugging, then closed it again. The original project frame is now sitting there, totally unresponsive (well the frame itself will maximize & minimize and move, but I can't close it) - and has been comatose like this for an hour.

The VM Options are set to 256MB max memory, and the status bar is showing 141M of 216M.

I hate having to kill application processes...

Hello Arthur,

Please take a thread dump when it happens, and file a JIRA issue.

I haven't been able to reproduce it again yet -- looks like someone else
may have reproduced it though here:

http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEA-15191

By the way... do you know of an easy way to produce a thread dump when
running from the executable? I usually run this way...

Hello Arthur,

running from the executable? I usually run this way...

This just happened to me. I had left IDEA running all night and this morning when I bring it to the foreground it says "Updating Modified Files..." but it doesn't appear to be doing anything. CPU% is 0%.

I added a file 7291_deadlock_stackdump.txt to http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEA-15191

The bug is listed under Version Control Integration. CVS, but I'm not using CVS, so it may not have anything todo with CVS.

i've had this happen a couple times as well

usually at the end of opening a second project in a new frame (the progress bar is at 99%)... it just dies and locks up, nothing is using the cpu-- have to force close IDEA from the os.
