Keymaps....

I'm going to be making a "Default Keymap Index" for the Overview... please
write all of the Keymaps you would like to include into this section (I'm
trying to remember or find them all, you all can help!).

Thanks!

David, look up the Keymaps option of Options menu.
You will find dozens of keymaps here.

The question is if you want to include only most commonly used keymaps and
you are asking us
what are they?

Good point.. I can probably just include these into the Overview... I'll
have to discuss this with the others here, to see if it's even needed....
might be a bit redundant if it's fully available in the IDE, plus, don't
want to give the impression that they cannot be changed, when they can.

Thanks,

It is definitely good to have a reference sheet for keymaps, even if they
are in the properties panel.

For me, I'm not really interested in a list of keymaps (e.g., default, vi,
Brief, whatever). What I'm looking for is a quick reference chart for all
the key stroke combinations within the default keymap (e.g. CTRLALTM maps
to extract method, etc.). I don't think there's any way to get this out of
IDEA's help system, at least not without going into the keymap config and
poking through all the categories one-by-one and writing them down myself.
There are also some keystrokes that I don't think are listed in the config,
maybe because they are not configurable or because they don't map to a menu
function. Every other editor I've used has had a help page with all or
most of the keystrokes listed.

Thanks,
Paul

I suggest looking at other product keymap sheets. The trick here is less
what to include, it's more in the smart way it's arranged for easy lookup.

Agreed. A few days ago, I was looking for way to print out the keymap
bindings. One thing I tried was go to the Keymap popup to see if there was
a "Print" button or suchlike provided. (There wasn't.) I'm not sure if my
behavior is typical of what other people would do, but perhaps it would make
sense to have such a button there.

I will include a basic list into the Overview, and then I will try to create
a separate .pdf file, organized in such a manner where you can post it in
your cubicle or on a wall near you for quick look up.

Best,

David

Hi Michelle,

You can get any built-in keymap here - http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/documentation/index.jsp

Alternatively, you can generate a *.pdf from your custom keymap via this plugin
