(Python) Template not used in new .py file

Using IDEA 12 I have set a custom file template for Python Scripts in IDE settings under "File and Code Templates".
However, within my Python project when I create a new Pythin file, this custom template is not used, the new file is empty.

Do I need to "activate" templates somewhere else?
