"Allow placement of caret after end of line" disables left arrow key?

Hello.  I noticed that if I check "Allow placement of caret after end of line" (virtual spaces--the default editing mode, IntelliJ IDEA) then place my "caret" at the beginning of a line, then hit the "left" arrow key...
I would expect it to take me to the end of the previous line, but instead it does nothing.  Please please tell me this is a bug.  Or if there's no response here I'll file a ticket anyhow.  Thank you.
