Active Window Tracking (aka focus follows mouse) in Idea 12

Answered

I'm a long time user of the Active Window Tracking feature in windows 7 so that I don't have to click on windows for them to receive focus.  Idea 11 had no issues with this feature, but I've noticed that Idea 12 doesn't get focus properly.  When the mouse enters an Idea window, the icon in the task bar flashes, but the window doesn't receive focus.  Once I click on an Idea window, focus will follow the mouse into another Idea window, but as soon as I leave Idea, I have to click an Idea window for it to get focus back.

Focus Follows the mouse perfectly in Idea 12 on Linux, so this is definately a windows specific issue.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue?

I have the same phenomen with a slightly different setup.

Using Windows 8 and IDEA 11.1.5 the Active Window Tracking does not work properly. All other programms react as expected (they get the focus just like if I clicked on the title bar). With IDEA only the Taskbar-Button starts flashing but the IDEA window itself does not get the input focus.

Coming from Windows XP where everything worked just fine this is very annoying.

(Another aspect is that the editor windows easily steals the focus from the CTRL+N search-for-classes input-box...)

Have you tried setting the "idea.popup.weight" property in the idea.properties file to "medium"?

Yes, I have. Neither "heavy" nor "medium" solves my problem(s).

One thing that I noticed though: IDEA only refuses to regain focus if I clicked into another window before.
Example:

  1. IDEA has focus
  2. move mouse over to e.g. firefox and scroll using scroll-wheel - important: do not click any mouse buttons!
  3. move mouse back over IDEA
  4. result: IDEA regains focus correctly

But:

  1. IDEA has focus
  2. move mouse over to e.g. firefox and click on a link or to select text
  3. move mouse back over IDEA
  4. result: IDEA doesn't get focus, only the IDEA-taskbar-button flashes

(Happens not only with firefox but with other windows, too.)

Have any of you actually had any luck with solving this issue? It behaves exactly as Alex says. Using webstorm on win 10 and true x mouse, idea shows the same behavior.

Thanks for any replies :)

Still have this issue with Windows 10 and Idea 2017.3.  Suggested fixes do not work.
