frequently the caret is disable and I can't edit in the text editor

Hi...this is a very annoying bug...sometimes (frequently) the caret dissapear and I can't type anything in the editor (it's similar to vim when isn't in edit mode) I can select text, move up and down, open file, settings, click in the menu, etc...but the text editor is disable...now..sometimes this fix in a few seconds, but in other case I need restart the ide...

Note: I was thinking than possibly it was an error with the fonts, because when I was using waree font this happenned frequently..then if I changed for the default font and sometime the problem was fixed..now I'm using andale mono but the problem still happen and the lonely way for fix it is restart the ide...
- If I change for openjdk the problem is fixed..but the font render is really ugly...I suspect than it can be a problem with the jdk

I'm using linux mint maya and intellij idea 12.0.2 jdk 1.7.0_07..

Hello,

It seems that the problem is with focus management - the IDE considers that editor is not a focus owner (IDEA-87889). Workaround: open any dialog at the ide (e.g. Settings Dialog - Ctrl + Alt + S) and close it.

It would be really great If you can provide stable steps to reproduce the problem (though as you mentioned earlier it seems to be sporadic).

Hi Denis..I've tried that "trick" a lot without results but I found than if I minimize the screen 1 or 2 times the problem is fixed, so probably you're right and the problem is the focus... I forget to say than I can select text in the text editor even when I can type in the ide (like a vim editor) and the problem only happen using jdk, with openjdk altough the font render is really ugly the editor and the ide works fine (actually I didn't found performance problems)

You can try another font and openjdk then. I use Bitstream Vera Sans Mono at my linux machine.
