Clion IDE becomes very sluggish after a few minutes of use.

Hello,

I'm using Clion version 2016.1.3 and noticed that the IDE has become next to useless.

I have a quite a few open documents including detached ones. I then looked at system monitor and

found that java process was using 70% of cpu.

When I stop typing the cpu usage goes down to 0 but as soon as I start typing cpu usage shoots

up to 50% to 70%.

I hope this issue is investigated ASAP because using Clion has become unproductive.

Any one else experienced this problem?

Platform Ubuntu 14.04.

Hi Joseph.

Sorry for the inconvenience! Please capture a CPU snapshot so we can take a look at what is going on. You can upload it to our FTP server: ftp://ftp.intellij.net/.uploads/ (anonymous login, .uploads directory has no permissions to list/download files, only for upload, so that other users will not be able to download your snapshots) and provide us its name. It would help us in our investigation!

Hi Anna,

Thanks for your reply.

I've attempted to upload via ftp using filezilla.

The file is called "while_typing_in_the_ide.png" and uploaded to ./upload folder.

Let me know if transfer was unsuccessful.

Thanks.

Hi Anna,

I sent the screenshot before I read all the info.

I've located the dump files and zipped them up and named the upload as clion_ide_freezes_for_short_periods.rar

and saved in your ./uploads folder.

Thanks.

Hi Joseph.

We've analyzed thread dumps but CPU snapshot will be more informative for the detection of the problem. Could you please capture it according to this guide

Hi Anna,

I followed the link and updated the .vmoptions  and the .sh file

and I started the cpu capture and then stopped the capture but I

wasn't asked to name the file and can't find it anywhere.

Also when I clicked on Help and clicked on Edit Custom VM options the IDE didn't find the

file in ~/.CLion2016.1/.  However I found the file the bin/ folder where clion was installed.

Really confused.
