Synch on Selena 10x+ faster than on 6.0 - please backport

Synchronization appears to be many times faster on Selena 6763 than on 6.0.5 beta 6170. Can the synch performance improvement be ported to 6.0l? I'm running WindowXP and the project files reside on a samba mount and we are always troubled by slow synch performance.
