Packaging IntelliJ IDEA CE into a VM

As a contributor to the Apache Software Foundation's Karaf project, I've set up a virtual appliance for folks who want to do OSGi development. The feedback I'm getting from the community indicates a strong preference for IntelliJ over Eclipse, which is currently installed in the vapp.

Does the IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition's license allow for it to be packaged into a virtual machine? The VM will be very visibly branded as containing the IntelliJ IDEA with links allowing interested developers easy access to upgrading it to the paid version.  Because this VM will be the first OSGi development VM available on the VMWare Marketplace, it will provide IntelliJ access to developers who work inside of cloud environments.

Hello Michael,

IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition is distributed under the Apache 2 license,
and to the best of my knowledge the Apache 2 license doesn't restrict the
possibility of such distribution in any way. Please let us know when the
appliance is made available, so that we can make some noise about it from
our side. :)

Dmitry,

Thank you for allowing me to create a VM for open-source software development that includes the IntelliJ IDEA CE edition. This will have a strong impact on the community, and will align IntelliJ even more with the open-source software development community.

I've negotiated with a company that mirrors Apache Software Foundation Projects to host the VM for developers who want to download it. However, an IntelliJ based VM hosted by IntelliJ would allow users to have easier access to IntelliJ resources (this forum, upgrades, support, etc). Would IntelliJ like to host the bundle for downloading?  The VM will be about 3GB in size and will encapsulate a CentOS based OSGi Development environment with IntelliJ's IDEA CE edition including the Apache Software Foundation's Karaf project and its subprojects Cellar, Cave and Webconsole

I am also in the process of developing another virtual appliance that creates a development environment for the Apache Software Foundation's Servicemix and Camel projects as an alternative to ESB's.  If I use the IntelliJ IDEA CE edition, this could also potentially be a way to market IntelliJ to cloud-based ESB developers. Please let me know if IntelliJ would want to host this virtual appliance.

According to our sysadmins, hosting the download of the VM on our servers
shouldn't be a problem.

Dmitry,

I sent an e-mail to you at your "yuri" email address listed in your profile.  Its from mikevan @ atraxia.net.  Could you please look at it? Its in reference to the VM that includes IntelliJ's IDEA CE edition.

Hi Mike,

Did this ever get set up?   If so, where is it hosted?  I'm very interested in working with Karaf under Intellij and would like to see an example.
