Hello Bjørn,

B> IDEA 6 is kind of useless for viewing log files under Linux without
B> fixing this bug!
B>
B> http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEA-10128

As far as I understand, this problem does not happen for all users and all
configurations. We do not consider it to be a blocker for the release.

As a workaround, you can try to use the IntelliTail plugin available from
the plugin manager.

Sure it isn't a blocker but this isn't release 6.0- this is the second bug fix release. If you don't fix this bug for 6.0.2, frankly, will it ever get fixed? I'm not on Linux so this bug doesn't affect me personally, but seeing so many bugs get dismissed in various ways is disheartening. I wish the overall polish on IDEA was still a priority to JetBrains.

Have you looked at the release notes for the 6.0.2 version? I'd say that
600+ fixed issues is a fairly good evidence that we do care about polish.

Of course we are unable to fix each and every known issue in 6.0.2 - otherwise
the release would never go out. We need to draw a line somewhere.

Sure, I take a look at the list with each EAP release. Nevertheless, from a historical perspective, IDEA has been losing ground on polish and responsiveness for 1 or 2 years compared to where it used to be. I suppose you can argue that it is now more complex and therefore inevitably more prone to these issues, but that doesn't change the fact that the impression of many people is that IDEA isn't what it used to be, that it has lost some of its "Develop with Pleasure" shine. This is not an issue with any individual JetBrains developer who works on IDEA- it is a management issue or even an executive management issue for JetBrains. Anyway, the product remains impressive with new features and I remain an advocate for IDEA.

If you only knew how IDEA management has changed recently, you wouldn't advocate for bad management of the project. At least I feel that the shift to the focus on users' problems is quite obvious even judging from the contents of the forums nowadays. And yes, I know that the core of the product, i.e. what used to be entire IDEA in 4.x times is by far more stable than at that time.
Just my 2c.

Eugene.

That's good to know. Those of us on the outside are not privy to such changes. It will take time for these changes to impact the product thoroughly and more time for perception to catch up, but this is good news.

Thanks,
Jon

That may be but I am running 3 different Linux distros and I have the problem in everyone, so it has to be a major problem!
Also running IntelliTail is not a good solution, it's not as responsive as viewing log files used to be with earlier versions of Idea (< 6)...

Or are you saying that since it doesn't happen to Windows users, it is not a show stopper??
