unable to build non-debug android app

I am on 111.228 and I cannot Run my app.  What happens is it builds an app that requires a debugger and when launched it sits on the screen waiting for the debugger to attach.  This does not happen when I build via Eclipse.  I am using the Eclipse compiler within IntelliJ.

<bump>
This is fairly painful as I cannot build a runnable version of the app, as the built application requires the debugger.  Is this just me?  Am I doing something wrong all of a sudden or is this a bug introduced in one of the last two releases?

Hello, Guy.

I didn't completely understand your problem? What "application requires the debugger" mean? We have 2 actions to launch the application "Run" and "Debug". If you press "Run", IntelliJ just starts your app on emulator or USB device (depends on run configuration settings). If you press "Debug", IDE launches your app with a debug key, so it waits until the connection between IDE and device/emulator established. In both cases we launch the same APK, so it is not problem in BUILDING of application. If you cannot launch debugging by "DEBUG" action, it may be you have Eclipse or DDMS started, so you need to close them, because they may catch debug connection before IntelliJ. BUT there shouldn't be any problems with launching by "RUN" action.

Applogies for not being clearer.  If I hit the debug button, it uploads the app to the device and launches it.  The app will show up with the "waiting to connect to the debugger" message and in a few moments the debugger connects and off we go.  If instead I hit the run button, the app will again show up with the same, "waiting to connect to the debugger" message but this time, no debugger is trying to connect and so that app will never really launch.

I just updated to the newer build of the IDE and as it turns out, I am not experiencing the issue anymore.  I am now able to launch the app in non-debug mode.

Restarting the device fixed this issue for me.
