IDEA 6 Confused By Unimplemented Method

I have an abstract class with several abstract methods. One of them was accidentally declared with package scope. I tried to declare a subclass in a different package and the syntax checker helpfully informed me that I needed to implement the method however, it unhelpfully would not allow me to do so - and it wouldn't tell me why.
