New Icons

I for one liked the old icons better. The 5.0 icons are much easier on the eyes - the new ones are too bright, and contain too much irrelevant detail (except for the trashcan which is kinda bland).

The 'C' letter in the new classes icons is too thin - almost invisible, especially when looked on 40% gray background. Now all nodes have very crisp outlines and gradients which looks cool, but adds more clutter and catches the eye on meaningless stuff like:the "Libraries" node icon has 4 books and each library icon is a folder with 3 books, the JDK coffee cup has a handle on the right side, so whoever is using it must be right-handed, the run icon is a pyramid and is the only licon that where the light vcomes mostly from the right (all others are mostly from the top, slightly right), while the make icon is not just squares, but real 3d cubes...

oh, well.. I'm getting off the soapbox. After all it's not that hard to copy the old icons into the icons.jar

I, for one, like them. They're nice and crisp and look more vibrant than the old ones.

I don't think they will make a cup with 2 handles for whom they are both-handed ;)

I really like the UI of IDEA 6.0 beta, particularly the tightening-up of the vertical space used by tabs, in trees and in pop-up lists. Plus I find the new icons offer more visibility, which is a good thing :)

I have no opinion on the handedness of coffee cups. As a workaround, I understand if you're left handed you can turn a right-handed cup around, and make do. Don't know if this is a hacky solution or not...

Seems this one is a worse version of an icon in IconExperience's free sample collection

When I saw these new icons, my initial reaction was I didn't like them. Then, I thought maybe I didn't like them because they were different.

Now after looking at them all day, I like some of them better, but some of them I still think are worse. Also, there is an inconsistent look between some of the new icons which sharper edges/bolder icons and some of the older icons with the soft/muted colors.

Anyway, here was my impressions:
- open folder - looks better, the old one seemed too fuzzy
- refresh - i like the older, new ones the lines seem too sharp, but maybe i'll get used to ti.
- copy and paste look better
- find, replace - find looks cripser, but I don't like the direction was reversed, the left-to-right is more standard. replace looks muddier because of the strong colors and lines the backcground A is harder to distinguish. Also, the glass color is a different blue than the blue used in the copy&paste icons righ tnext to it. I like the Find icon in windows xp.

- back, forward - those icons are very striking and they stand out -- maybe a little too strong? I think I prefer the old icons. I felt they stood out well enough. Actually if you take the arrows from the old one and the background square from the new ones, that might look good.

- debug - I'd rather just see a bug without the triangel behind it which muddies it.

- settings - I liked the old one. The old one has the wrench at a better angle and just looked better I thought. Also, the old wrench better matches the large wrench on the General icon on the Settings screen.

- garbage collect - the new icon looks awful, hard to tell what it is. I liked the old one better.

- On Settings menu,
I liked the old Errors icon. The new one looks like you are Xing the whole sheet of paper. The paper and X look better on the old one. and I like the left-to-right look.

The Project Structure icon looks much better. The old one was too fuzzy.
