I run IDEA on JDK 6 for 2 main reasons:

1) Improved Look & Feel. I use the Windows Look&Feel ( not because I like it, but the current tab is easier to spot in the editor window )

2) JDK 6 made many tweaks to Swing, the most perceptible being the end of the 'gray box' repaint problem that has plagued Java for years

Most of the changes probably aren't all that apparent. It does seem to run a litter better and be more responsive but that could just be my perception.

Besides, for those who like it on the bleeding edge, the best reason is "because we can" ;)

Hey, great article. I actually hadn't seen that one before. I also didn't know about the bugs in the JDK. Good stuff.
