Getting : IO exception sun.io.MalformedInputException while building project

I am porting over several RAD projects to IDEA. I am getting "Error : : IO exception sun.io.MalformedInputException" while doing a build of the project that I cannot get past. Is there a log file which has more details/stacktrace about this error.

I've tried clearing caches and rebuilding resulting in same error.

I found the module which is causing the ": IO exception sun.io.MalformedInputException". Please find idea.log attached. It doesn't have any information on the error. Is there a way to turn on more detailed logging?

BTW, I am compiling with IBM JDK 1.4.2 as my application runs on WAS 6.0

I was able to get past this error by using Sun's Java SDK 1.4. But, I am unable to start WAS 6.0 as its making use of Java 1.6. How do I specify WAS 6.0 to use IBM Java 1.4 SDK?

Hello,

It looks like you are using WebSphere 6.0 while Idea actually supports WebSphere starting from 6.1.
It is not easy to support the 6.0 because it uses the bundled IBM JDK 1.4 that does not accept our classes compiled with Java 5+.
Honestly, I feel that WS60 is a bit outdated, I am even unable to install it to Win 7.

I tried to replace the bundled JDK to IBM JDK 6 (bundled with WS7.0, IBM JDK 5 bundled with WS 6.1 could be used too),
but IDEA still has minor problems working with 6.0.

If migration to the more recent WS is not an option, I may try to resolve those minor problems, but you still will need to replace JDK
manually in your WS installation. Please let me know.

Regards,
Michael

Hello

I have submitted and fixed the http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/IDEA-79586.
While the fix will be available only in IDEA 11.1 later this year, you may use the locally rebuilt version of WS integration plugin attached to the request above which is compatible with IDEA 11 / 11.0.x.

Regards,
Michael
