How can I apply local Git repo to my Idea project?

Guys,
please clarify this small issue for me.

I have a project which is located inside a git-tracked folder. This project is open in Idea. A problem is that I dont know how I can attach that Git tracking to Idea project. There is a checkout option, but I dont want to checkout because I have the files and repo already created. What I want is just to let Idea know that the files it works with are inside Git.
