What is Idea holding onto for 345Mb?  In this screenshot, all projects are closed and I've clicked on the mem usage display many times to trigger garbage collection.  Using latest Mac OS 10.6.8, latest idea 10.5.2, set to use 32bit.

Hello larry,

This looks like a memory leak. Please submit a memory snapshot as described
in http://devnet.jetbrains.net/docs/DOC-192

I just uploaded a memory dump into ftp site/.uploads/  , with       filename:

  afterExercise-IU-107.587_lhamel_04.10.2011_17.31.24.zip

This is a dump of Idea with NO projects open, having clicked GC       many times, yet Idea is holding on to >350Mb

At no point in this run of Idea did the OOM dialog come up (where       you are asked to increase max mem).  However, I believe that available memory WAS used up, causing a slow GC to happen (there was a long pause       which made me notice). After the GC, things were fine, but after       running for a while GC would not       recapture much RAM.  I closed the two open Android projects and       GC'd without much recovery, and then took the memory dump.

can you take a look?

is there a way to notice that there are no projects open, so ALL       caches should be emptied?

thanks,

larry

p.s. uploading a 135Mb memory dump required a dozen attempts.  Is there a way to reduce the dump size?  To make the transfer restartable?
