Is it just me or build 3496 is way too slow?

Tried 3496 today. It had very frequent gc cycles lasting a considerable amount of seconse, and a general slugginess when performing every operation. I thought it was the new inspections, but since I use a custom profile they were turned off. Had to switch back to 3489.

Shocking! My beautiful new inspections the cause of sluggishness? Never!

Seriously, I don't notice 3496 being any slower. On the contrary,
editing and parsing of java files seems faster to me. What type of
things seem slower?

I didn't notice any general sluggishness, but #3496 seems to eat memory faster than #3489 -- full GC seems to be happening a lot more often.

This is exactly what I noticed, and the frequent GCs caused the slugginess: I found it so annoying I switched back. This happened with every feature of IDEA, and particularly when editing. GCs occurred every few seconds (even when nothing was done on the editor. at a much higher rate than what I see now in 3489), and I could see a high CPU consumption (I always have procexp by sysinternals running in the systray). What I noticed is that when I start 3489 the heap quickly gets expanded to 96 meg, while with 3496 it didn't pass 64 megs (forgot to check if the idea.vm.properties contained something like -Xmx64m, I admit...). Anyway, 3489 good, 3496 bad.

yes, lots more GC, and on my poor powerbook when the little eye is doing the second level inspections in some files, it's impossible to type anything. Blocking background inspections, in an ideal world that'd be an oxymoron!

The Editor in all of the IntelliJ version 5 builds is sluggish compared
to version 4.5.

I look forward to an announcement of "performance enhancements"
especially for the editor.

I find it very annoying that the editor cannot keep pace with my typing.
I'm working with Windows XP, 2 Gig RAM, Dual Xeon processors.

Which build are you using? "Performance enhancements" for the editor were
announced in the build 3483.

Where can I download previous EAP versions (up to 3489) ?

Thanks,
Peter

Just get the URL for the latest EAP, and manually change it to reflect the build you want. Jetbrains usually keeps at least two or three builds available. For example, you can use

http://www.intellij.net/eap/products/idea/redirect.jsp?filename=idea3483.exe

To download #3483 Windows installer
