Perforce integration in 3417 misbehaving

I use Perforce integration over VPN too and have noticed problems in latest
build if I lose my VPN connection or if it is just slow for a bit. All the
file names will turn brown and, after VPN connection is back to normal, I
have to shut down IDEA to get it to "see" my files are in perforce.

2 things that have happened to me so far this morning:
- IDEA taking 100% of CPU for several minutes until I killed it. I
couldn't get a snapshot because it hadn't even repainted yet. Took
several minutes to get enough control of the OS to kill IDEA. Nothing
interesting in the log.

- Perforce integration plugin throwing NPE. Integration broken enough to
force shutdown/restart of IDEA. This seems to be reasonably easy to
reproduce.

I need this fixed before release. This seems to be new behavior in
3417 - I haven't seen anything like this in previous builds.
