Compiled classes not saved to disk

I have idea versions 7 and 10 installed on windows platform.  I recently had a security update automatically installed on my machine.  Now when I compile a class it is not saved to disk. "Compilation completed successfully" is displyaed on the bottom after compilation but there is no class file anywhere on disk.  I have no idea why this happens.  I can create .java files from within idea.  I've checked the output directories.  I've even run find on the entire disk but the class is not there.

Is there a log somewhere I can check to see what is going on?  Has anyone else ever seen anything like this?

Are classes actually runnable? if so, you could create a simple class and execute it to get an actual location:

this.class.getResource(".").getAbsolutePath();

And i've never encountered this.

No I can't do that.  I can't run the class inside idea because there's no class file!  When I try to do that I get the following:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.junk.TestIt

It's very strange.  This used to work fine until the security update.  My guess it has something to do with the "user" that is used to launch the java compiler but I don't know how to check for that.  Is there a verbose log setting I can set and then check some idea log somewhere to see if some kind of error is occuring?

if there are nothing in the %HOME%/.IntellijIdea10/system/log/idea.log under the current verbosity, you can try to increase verbosity by modifing file %idea installation dir%/bin/log.xml - it's an usual log4j config file (restart required). As i can't advice concrete package to debug, you have to set root logger to debug, probably.
