OT: Mac mini enough for Java development?

Hi,

We are thinking about purchasing a Mac mini, but have our doubts,
whether it can be used for serious Java developing. At least the
built-in 256MB RAM seem like a joke to me. Is somebody using a Mac mini
with IDEA? Is it acceptable fast?

Thanks, this helps a lot. Regarding the keyboard I have some more questions:
- how do you Debug|Continue in IDEA (F9 just changes IDEA's size here)
- how to change the chnage the keyboard mapping to feel more like
Windows behaviour, e.g., to make Ins/Pos1/End work as expected, to
swap alt and apple

Thanks in advance,
Tom

I've got my Mac mini from a local Mac dealer who upgraded the RAM
himself, so the price was at 700 EUR (900 USD) for the 1.42GHz machine
with 1GB RAM and a ApplePro keyboard.

You know generally you can just point to the various buttons in idea for
a second or so and it will show you the shortcuts. However, chances are
that you have not enabled the F keys. To do that, go to the system
preferences, keyboard and mouse, and then check off "Use the F1-F12
keys..." in the keyboard tab.

Man the exchange rate sucks for us :) Did that include Bluetooth and
Wireless as well?

Sure, I already was using the right keys, but the OS captures them.

I've selected tab 'Keyboard Shortcuts', but pressing Shift-F9 or
Shift-F10 do not work in IDEA (although shown as accelerators. :(

BTW, the weird keyboard is my most handicap with Mac OS X.

No, but 16% VAT ;) I already have a Bluetooth USB-dongle and WLAN is a
NO-NO for us because of the unhealthy radiation.

No doubt as I completely fumble when on a windows keyboard after being
far from it for a while as well. It's hard to adjust, and takes a
little time.

If you haven't done it yet, I suggest you load the describeKey plugin.
It will help you sort out many of your shortcuts problems.
