"windows" look&feel problem with all IDEA versions

That is the ALT key. As soon as you press the key, IDEA puts its focus to the MENU, and you must press ALT again to get your cursor back. It's very annoying when you switch among applications using ALT+TAB.
This is a problem with every version that I know. I only wonder why other look&feel always work ok.

Yeah, this is totally annoying. I didn't know it was just a Windows L&F issue.
If you file a request on the tracker for this, I will vote for it.

Don't you think it worth trying try it out on sample application before submitting
an issue? At least I do so before submitting any issues to Sun or Apple.
I'm not saying you have to do that but doesn't it sound reasonable?

I completely agree on that one. :)

But somehow I manage to get stuck in the menu of idea if I use alt-tab. And not with any other program. I do not know why/how this happens, but yeah it is annoying.

On my Win NT box, that is the functionality for all applications except IDEA.
If I press the ALT key the focus goes to the File menu. Idea doesn't do that. To match the windows l&f it should.

Maybe it should, if your goal is to mach Windows L&F. But
from usability standpoint, this menu focusing is irritating,
isn't it? Windows has too many keymaps for the same actions
anyway, so why would you want to jump to menu using Alt, if
you can do the same with F10?

P.S. I am more irritated by the fact that when I get to the
menu and press arrow key and keep it pressed, the highlight
does not move as fast as in Windows apps. But this is
apparently Swing problem, maybe it just does not stuff all
keyboard messages into one, like Windows does.

Ha! Badmouthing swing again :)

Known (unresolved) problem with alloy look and feel. Switch to any other
look and feel and the problem disappears.

Yeah, Maxim Shafirov (JetBrains) is right. Other swing based application also has this problem(At least i tried one, abolutely the same).
Today I know that this is not a problem with IDEA, but something with Swing. I'd like to describe it a little more with my poor English :P
First, open an IE window and IDEA. You will see that in both application , ALT key has the same function : go to the menu and back. Now you press ALT+TAB and switch between the two applications, you will see that IE NEVER puts its focus on the menu, but IDEA ALWAYS goto menu,go back, goto menu, go back...
Oh no... only if you loose your ALT key definitely after loosing the TAB key, IDEA acts right(not put its focus to MENU).
That's all. I really wish that this problem could be solved. Because the Project Tree under windows l&f is more compact and shows more Files&Directories that other l&f.
Thank all of you!

Good description, and yes, it happens with all swing apps.

Somehow I tend to release the alt-key before I release the tab-key. And this makes IDEA go to the menu.

Other apps don't do this, so it is definitly a swing problem as far as I can tell.

I don't use Windows-lnf at all, because it looks and feels crappy.
