Using Path Variables

Hello,

I have a scenario that I would like to use Path Variables in but would like
to get the feedback of the knowledgeable community.

I have a very large project set with multiple modules and complex dependency
between modules, and ... (any how it is a pain to set), although it takes
about 15min only to set in IDEA, but I don't want to do this often.

All the modules (fortunatly) are in a single "root" directory in different
paths, so I specify this root as a Path Variable, and all paths in my project
are stored relative to this common root.

The problem now is that I am working on two development versions at the same
time (top of trunk, and a patch to an older version), and I will definitly
like to use the same project (not just iml files, I know that this is easy)
with all its settings for both trees.

So, If I just change the value of the "root" path variable, will I be able
to run seamlessly with both trees?

A nice to have feature: Is it possible to have a set of values for a Path
Variable, and the user (me) can select from those values instead of selecting
the same directory over and over when toggling between trees. (yes, I am
lazy, how did you know:-)

Best Regards,
Mamado

Could you please provide more details on this? What would you do after changing the value? Will you change it from IDEA or another
editor?
