3177 snappy

Me too on WinXP. Startup time alone is much faster.

I wish I could say the same. :(

For me it's unbelievably slow, even changing the editor tab takes around
3 seconds. I work with a fairly large project, but neither 4.5 nor the previous
EAP builds had any problems with it (well, not of this sort, at least :).

I'll try to play with it some more (remove plugins, tweak settings) and see
if it helps.

Unfortunately, I too am finding 3177 unusable slow (Mac OS X). Just clicking on a different location in my editor takes a 2-3 seconds before the cursor is moved. I've also seen the whole thing lock up about 5 times.

If anyone finds any caches/settings that need to be changed to address this problem, please post ASAP. Otherwise, I'll be forced back to 3144.

Not sure how, but I managed to speed it up on my machine (WinXP). Here's
what I remember doing:
- removed the user plugins, restarted: no change in speed
- put the pluging back, restarted: no change
- removed the focus dll (with restart): no change
- put it back: no change
- changed the memory setting in the bat file (wild guess, couldn't find any
other place with Xmx on my machine): no change
- got a outOfMemory exception during compile, changed the compiler max setting
to 512M and restarted: no change apparently
- moved all the dlls in the bin directory somewhere else: no change
- put them back: HUGE change in speed.

And it stayed so since, after many restarts. Obviously the dlls don't have
any relevance in your case, but I really can't remember doing anything else.
I'm just glad it started working. :)

What seemed weird was that the UI was very slow to react, in spite of the
CPU being close to 0 most of the time (or because of that). Now that IDEA
is fast, the CPU spikes up every time some UI activity is involved (like
resizing the project pane). Maybe jetbrains can shed some light on this mistery.

oops ...

Using Linux, I am finding it quite a bit slower than 4.5.3. But I have only just started using 3177, and it may take some usage to build whatever caches IDEA uses to speed things up.
